Abstract
589,255. Signs. DICKSON, C. F. March 1, 1945, No. 5167. [Class 3 (i)] A cylinder, or prism having three or more sides 1, is rotated intermittently by a wind or like motor. Fig. 1 shows a vane motor 10 which through worm gearing 23, 24 rotates a shaft 22 carrying at its further end a roller-fitted wiping cam which contacts a scroll surface carried by a pivoted lever 16 fitted at the top with a spring- pressed pawl 19. The pawl 19 engages a series of teeth 20 on the drum shaft 4, one tooth being furnished for each face 1 of the drum. The cam forces the lever 16 away from the shaft 4 against the pull of a spring 21, and when in its rotation it ceases to bear on the lever scroll the spring 21 retracts the lever 16 and causes its pawl to advance the drum one step. A registering device is provided for holding the drum stationary during its display periods, and consists of a pivoted arm 29 spring-pressed at 29a and 32 to bear against flats on the drum shaft. The shaft 4 is made up of two hollow stubs which admit lamps for internal illumination of the drum if desired, and accommodate ball races. A modified form is shown employing a turbine type motor which through rotating arm presses down a sliding pawl against spring action, release of the pawl effecting rotation of the drum as before.
