Abstract

611,485. Electric irons. NUTTALL, R. May 2, 1946. No. 13291. [Class 39 (iii)] An electric iron comprises a brass sole plate 1 having a lug 2 at the front end and a lug 3 at each rear corner, a heating element 6 located betwen the lugs, and a brass cover plate 9 held in position by a vertical stud 8 arranged on the base plate and having a screw-threaded upper end projecting through the cover 9 on which a nut 10 screws. The heating element consists of wire wound on formers and sandwiched between mica sheets, and is separated from a cast iron weight 12 by asbestos 14. A removable plate 20 permits accessibility to terminals 15 connecting leads 7 to a cable 19 which passes up inside a handle 16 and emerges horizontally therefrom.
