To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK F. FoRsHnE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Flint, in the county of Genesee and 5 -btate of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement 'in Sadirons, of which the following is a specification. My invention rela-tes to electrically heated apparatusand particularly `to electrically 10 heated fiat irons, and it has. for one of its objects to provide a handle member for a flat iron which shall have a single adjust able pivotal connection to said iron.
In practising my invention l provide an 16 electrically heated lat iron with a handle member which is adjustably and pivotally `mounted on said iron and Which has a plurality of positions relatively thereto. l provide a terminaly member permanently se- 20 cured to and 4mounted on said, iron and l provide a single means tor holding said han--l die and -said terminal member in proper operative position on the iron. ll provide also a supporting means secured to thebody ot the iron which is adapted to coopeate with the handle to support the ,iron

Ain electrically heated iiat iron 1 comprises a bottom plate 2. a ton or cover member 3 and an electrical heating element 3 clamped between the top member 3 and the bottom plate 2. A terminal block 6 of suitable insulatin material is provided with screws 7 to Whici may be connected the terminals (not shown) of the heating element and to 'which may also be connected the ends of the su ply conductors 8. Each of the parts 13 is provided with a substantially circular opening `15, in which l is placed a short shaft 16. screweyo 17 is pivotedly mounted on the shaft 16. The forward edge of each of the parts 13 is made I with three angularly disposed bevels for a purpose to be hereinafter set forth.
A handle member.v comprises a suitable handle 18 which may be made ot' wood, and an enclosed metal. member 19 projecting slightly beyond the end of the handle and having internal screwthreads adapted to co-v operate with the screwthreads on the outer end ot the screweye 17. A bolt or screw 20 may be provided in the upper end of the handle 18 to secure the member 19in its proper operative position in the handle 18.. lit may be noted that the handle 18 may be tixed in one oit a plurality of positions' by so rotating the parts 18 and 19 on the screweye 17 as to cause the handle/18 to approach, and the outer surfaceot the member 19 tooperatively engage, the bevel edges otthe partsv 13 in any one of the positions v shown inr Figure 1.

l i l member 19 is pressed against the bevel 'edges of the parts 13. While I have shown only three positions, I do not wish to be limited to the construction shown in thedrawing, as I may use other similar methods which may give a larger number of operative positions. l
The handle mounting member 12 is clamped against the diagonally extending part of the supporting means 5 by the screw 11, so that the terminal block 6, the member 12 and the cover member 10, together with the tubular member 9, are all held in their proper positions by means of the screw 11.
A flat iron supporting member 21 comprises a member of substantially U-shape, which may be made of resilient material. The inner end of each of the main parts of the member 21 is so bent as to form a substantially closed circle, the inner diameter of which is of such size as to permit placing therethrough the bolt 4, by means of which the supporting member 21 is held in its proper operative position on the iron 1.
The member 21 is of such dimensions, and the main parts thereof are so bent, that the connecting part thereof is a substantial distance away from,\ and parallel to, the side of the iron. If it is desired to place the iron in an inoperative position upon the top of an ironin board, it is only necessary to tilt around its longitudinal axis, first upon the-near edge of the iron and then upon the connecting part of the member 21, until the iron rests in a sidewise-tilted position upon 'the outer part of the member 21 and the handle member 18.
It may be noted that the device embody- ,ing .my invention provides a pivotally and adjustably mounted handle for a flat iron havin only one connection therewith and provi es also a` normally non-removable terminal block which is held in its proper operative position on the iron by a single holding means, which, at the same time, holds the handle mounting member in its operative position/ The pivotally and adjustably mounted handle provides a plurality of operative positions of the handle rela-. tive to the iron, and it may be noted that,
when the handle is in the position shown in the full line of Figure 1 the hand of the operator will be in substantial alinement with the wrist andY forearm, thus preventing undue 'fatigue of the operatorl during the ironing.
The handle may bemoved to a position @0 substantially in alinement with the top surface of the iron, in which .position the iron. may be packed in a relatively small space. The supporting member 21 permits resting theiron upon a table in a sideWise-tilted 55 position, with little eiort on the part of the operator in placing it in this osition. Various modifications may be ma e on the device embodying my invention Without departing from the spirit and scope thereof,
and l desire that only such limitations may be placed thereon as are imposed by the vprior art or are specifically set forth in the appended claims.

The combination with an electric flat iron, of a terminal block, a handle, a single adjustable and pivotal mounting for said handle, means for holding said handle in a predetermined position of adjustment relatively to said iron, and a single supporting means for both said terminal block and said handle-mounting means.
3. An electric iron comprising a body, a
handle-supporting member attached thereto, a handle-'mounting member, of substantially U-shape in cross-section, secured to said handle-supporting member, and a handle having a pivotalV mounting in said handlemounting member and co-operating therewith to Secure the handle in any one of a plurality of operative positions on said iron.
