[Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group VIII] In an electric iron having a water container 3 for generating steam that is passed through apertures 19, 26 in the sole plate, the container is spaced from the outer shell 4 and the space is filled with insulating material 5 such as asbestos. The material is passed under the nose of the container to prevent access of any moisture to the heating element 2. Sufficient space is left between the rear of the water container and the outer shell for the passage of the insulated current leads 9.
