[Class 138 (ii)] An electric iron handle is spaced above the body of the iron by a metallic bracket fitted between the body and the top of a cavity formed within the vertical front portion of the handle. As shown, an electric iron body 2 is fastened to a soleplate 1 by transversely spaced screws 4. A metallic baffle plate 18, spaced from the body by bosses 22 formed on the baffle plate, is secured by transversely spaced rivets 21 which extend through the bosses. A Z-shaped ribbed bracket 15 is secured to the baffle plate by a rivet 19. The upper end of the bracket extends into a cavity 16 formed within the front portion of the handle and is secured by a screw 25, the bracket spacing the front portion of the handle above the body of the iron. The rear portion of the handle is spaced from the body of the iron by bosses 14 and is secured by screws 13 passing through the bosses. The lower portions of the handle supports 27, 28 are turned inwards towards each other and joined by a resilient metal plate 29 of elongated U-shape fitting over reduced end extensions 30, 31. The handle is preferably moulded of an electrical insulating material such as a.phenol condensation production. The temperature of the iron is controlled by a thermostat adjustable by a lever 34 in the manner described in Specification 637,458, [Group XXXVII].
