Abstract

A light antifriction alloy consists of 2 to 12 per cent Mg, 0.6 to 4 per cent Pb and Sn together, the lead being at least 0.5 per cent, the balance being aluminium. A part of the Sn and Pb may be replaced by an equal amount of Bi, the Pb and Sn together being at least 0.6 per cent. The alloy may also contain one or more of the metals Cu, Ni, V, Zr, Cr, Mn and Ti, up to 1 per cent for each, but with a total not exceeding 4 per cent. The alloys may be used in the cast or worked condition and may be the rubbing layer, a support to form a bearing, or form a one-part rubbing element. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the alloy may contain no Sn. Further, all or part of the Pb may be replaced not only by Bi, but by Sn, or Sb or a mixture of Sn, Bi and Sb. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
