Abstract

610,639. Edge-trimmers. WEBB & CO., Ltd., H. C., and TAYLOR, F. W. April 12. 1946, No. 11282. [Class 6(ii)] An edge - cutting device, capable of attachment to a lawn-mower through a bayonet joint, and of the type comprising a rotatable cutter 24 co-operating with a fixed blade 21 is characterized by the provision of a handle 34 for ease of attachment and removal. The device is shown applied to a mower having the cutter cylinder 4 mounted on pivoted arms 6 which permit relative movement between the cylinder and ledger blade. The cutter cylinder spindle 10 is extended on one side to pass through a slot in the side plates 2 of the machine, and is provided with a squared end 12. A bayonet socket 14 is mounted on the pivoted arms 6, coaxially with the spindle 10, by pins 16 passing through slots in the side plates 2. The attachment, Fig. 6, comprises a star-shaped cutter 24 provided with cutting blades 20 which co-operate with a fixed blade 21. The cutter is carried by a spindle 19 mounted in a sleeve 22 provided with pins 23 for engaging the bayonet slots. The spindle 19 is provided with a squared socket 32 which engages the end 12 of the cutter cylinder spindle 10. The handle 34 is mounted on the fixed plate 28 which carries the blade 21.
