Abstract

592,234. Slicing-knives. ROSE A. G., HUNSLEY, S. C., and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. Oct. 25, 1944, No. 20794. [Class 5 (i)] [Also in Groups VI and XIV] The usual bread-slicing machine knife 12 with ground arcuate portions 15 leaving thick portions adjacent the pointed tips 14, is further ground or machined as in Fig. 4 on both sides to either a hollow ground or taper shape from the line 20, to the tips 18 to eliminate the thicker near-tip portions. The hollow grinding is performed by a grinding wheel 21, Fig. 10, having its axis of rotation parallel to the longitudinal axis of the knife, the knife being traversed in the direction of its length along the grinding wheel. To perform the straight taper a grinding wheel 24, Fig. 11, is used having its axis lying transversely to the knife 22 and its grinding surface inclined towards the tips.
