Abstract

765,134. Gouges. SOC. DEC. CAOUTCHOUCS D'EXTREME ORIENT. Nov. 30, 1954 [Dec. 8, 1953; Oct. 19, 1954], No. 34623/54. Class 61. [Also in Group XIV] A gouge for tapping rubber trees comprises a detachable V-shaped blade secured in a triangular-section blade-holder by a V-shaped wedge. As shown, a wedge 3 secures a blade 1, having cutting edges at both ends in a hollow blade-holder 2 of sheet steel mounted on a tang 5 fitted in a handle 6. The cross-section of the bladeholder decreases towards the rear to increase the clamping action of the wedge which has a rib 7 and a depression 4 to facilitate thumb pressure in dismantling. In modifications the tang is secured to the wedge and the blade is slightly curved longitudinally.
