Abstract
416,360. Sharpening knives &c. WHITELAW, L. S., 7, Idol Lane, London. June 17, 1933, No. 17282. [Class 60.] A sharpener for the blade of a knife, razor, or other bladed instrument is combined with and disposed upon the end of or within a pen, pencil, or a point protector. In one form, as applied to the end of a pencil, the sharpener is of tempered steel or stone in the form of a screw head or a nut provided with a slot through which a blade may be drawn. The sharpener may be in the nature of a piece of abrasive material 7, Fig. 2, situated in the end of the point protector 6 of a pencil or in the cap of a fountain pen. In the form shown in Fig. 7, disposed on the end of a pencil is a hollow metal tube 15 provided with a cross slot 17, and situated within the tube is a small piece of tempered steel 18 which is also hollow and provided with two specially shaped slots 19, one slot curving to the left and the other to the right as seen in plan, so that a blade placed in the slot 17 and drawn to and fro will be sharpened at each side by contact with the sides of the slots 19.
