Abstract
610,388. Making bearings. SELF-PRIMING PUMP & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and BROWN, B. J. April 3, 1946, No. 10352. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Angular bending; dies; shearing-adjuncts.- In a machine for making bearing-bushes &c. from strip material, a strip is fed against a stop 6 and on depression of a die head 2 a cutter 11 severs the blank. A mandrel 18 is then moved axially by an air cylinder secured to a member 14 and is lowered to bend the blank to U-shape between spring-mounted dies 8. On further depression of the head 2, a die 12 bends the legs of the U about the mandrel. The latter which constitutes the plunger rod of the air cylinder is then withdrawn to strip the bush from the mandrel. The bushes may be broached to size and the slot may be machined and fitted with a taper key. In order to ensure the mandrel is in position when the press operates, a stop is withdrawn from the pedal of the press by a supplementary air cylinder fed from the main air cylinder, Fig. 3 (not shown).
