621,677. Shearing; punching. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 7, 1945, No. 14353. Convention date, June 8, 1944. [Class 83 (iv)] A machine for shearing a metal strip into unequal lengths and holing it near the centre has a shear-blade 22 fixed in position and a punch 67 and an end stop 27 movable by screws. The shear-blade 22 is reciprocated by an air cylinder 65 fed from air lines 64, 70. The punch is actuated by a cylinder 67 and is slidable on rods 28, 29 on rotation of a screw 33. The end stop 27 is slidable on the rod 29 and is positioned by rotation of a screw 34. To cut a succession of lengths, a pedal 61 is depressed to operate a valve 62 to actuate the shear and the punch and a cylinder 68 to lower a rack 40. On reversal of the valve, the rack rises and ratchets 47 turn the screws 33, 34. By variation of gearing 52, 53, 54 the relative adjustment of the end stop and punch is determined. The position of a stop-nut 73 adjusts the length of stroke of the rack. A dashpot 82 prevents feed movement of the rack during operation of the punch and the shear.
