Abstract
610,296. Electric heaters. HOWARD, A. G. April 8, 1946, No. 10812. [Class 39(iii)] In a tubular electric heater the heating element has spaced metal supporting members 3 carrying bushes of mica, porcelain or other insulating material through which a coiled resistance wire 7 is threaded. The bushes may consist of two mica discs 8, 10, one each side of a dished metal member and held together by a metal eyelet 12, the depression 5 being so shaped as to position one of the discs relative to the hole in the supporting member. Alternatively a single mica disc may be used, being sandwiched between two thicknesses of sheet metal spot welded together to form the supporting member. The supporting members may have end flanges 4 by which they are spot welded to a pair of longitudinal strip metal pieces 1, 2, which are inserted as a push fit into a metal tube 23 which has metal caps at each end, one (27) being closed, and the other (24) open for access to the terminals 15, 16 of the element. In a modification, a single longitudinal member is used and angle brackets spot welded thereto for supporting the wires, or flanges bent up out of the strip at intervals along its length.
