Abstract

548,163. Electric resistance heaters. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 15, 1941, No. 16173. Convention date Dec. 18, 1940. [Class 39 (iii)] In the manufacture of an electric resistance heater of the sheathed wire type, described in Specification 144,767, [Class 39, (iii)], flanged cups 15, 16 are inserted in the ends of the sheath to hold the terminals 13, 14 centrally, and the cup 15 is provided with openings to allow the insulating material to be be poured in. The lower cup 16 is provided with central opening through which the terminal 14 is threaded as far as the flattened retaining head 23. The upper cup 15 has openings 21 through which the flattened head 20 of the terminal 13 is passed, and depressions 19 which receive the head 20 when turned through a right angle. After fitting, the lower end of the sheath is crimped to secure the cup 16, and the sheath is loaded with insulating material. The upper end of the sheath is then crimped to secure the cup 15 and the unit is. rolled or swaged to compact the insulation. The ends of the unit are then cut off to leave the terminal ends exposed.
