Abstract

463,033. Electric wire resistances; BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 23, 1936, No. 28899. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1935. [Class 39 (iii)] A sheathed electric heater is formed by assembling a resistance wire loop 11, having terminals 13 and readily deformable supporting members 18 and 23, in a sheath 10. The supporting members are provided with apertures so that the tube may be filled from one end with electrically insulating heat conducting material such as magnesium oxide. The tube is then swaged to compact the insulating material and the deformable members are substantially destroyed so that in the finished heater the resistance wire and terminals are supported solely by the insulating material. The sheath 10 is closed at both ends by metal washers 15 and 32 before swaging takes place. After swaging, the washer 32 and the ends of the terminals 13 are cut off from the unit. The deformable members 18 and 23 may be mica washers. A tube 16 fits within sheath 10 and is provided with notches in which ears on the washers engage and thus the parts are secured in position. Specifications 144,767 and 198,932, [both in Class 37], are referred to.
