Abstract

466,060. Electric heating resistances. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 4, 1936, No. 12583. Convention date, May 4, 1935. [Class 39 (iii)] In an electric resistance heater of bar form having all external connections at one end and in which the heating conductors a are embedded in compressed electric insulating material c, each lead and return portion of the one or several heating conductors is arranged in a separate protecting tube b so shaped that when the several tubes are assembled together they form a heating unit of circular cross-section. The whole element is swaged, after the tubes have been placed together, in order to compact the insulating material. The pressure at the same time causes the tubes to adhere together. They may, however, be welded or soldered together in addition. A protecting cap is soldered on the end of the element remote from the connections and a threaded head to secure the heater in position is attached to the other end of the element.
