Abstract

167,346. Sykes, G. H. May 29, 1920. Wire terminals.-Relates to spring-clip end pieces for conducting leads of the type in which guided jaws are oppositely-movable against spring action. One jaw is electrically connected to the lead, and to the other jaw is secured sleeve of insulating-material which surrounds the lead and is grasped for manipulating the coupling. In one construction, Fig. 2, the lead e is electrically connected to a plate j adapted to slide against the action of a spring o over a tongue b secured to the insulating-sleeve a to enable apertures n, c in the plate and tongue respectively to engage the binding-screw of a sparking-plug or like terminal. The plate j is guided between the tongue b and a plate g, which is secured to the tongue b by lugs f, and is provided with an aperture h to engage the binding-screw. In a modification, Fig. 8, the lead c is electrically connected to a rod w, of which the end u is slidable against the action of a spring y within a hollow tongue s forming the end of a hollow metal terminal r to which the insulating-sleeve a is secured by a threaded sleeve q. A central portion v of the rod w is a sliding fit in the sleeve q. A semicircular recess 11 at the end u of the rod registers with apertures t in the tongues when the roll is retracted.
