Abstract

651,733. Electric blankets. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 23, 1948, No. 2141. Convention date, Jan. 27, 1947. [Class 39(iii)] An electric blanket 1 has a heating winding in at least two parallel-connected parts 2 and 3, each part being substantially uniformly distributed over the blanket, and a two-part connector 12, 13, e.g. of the plug type having three contacts, one of which is connected to a common point 4 on the two windings, the other two contacts being connected respectively to the other ends of the windings. The common terminal 4 is connected to a pin 9 on the connector 12, while the free end of each winding is connected to pins 10 and 11 respectively in the plug 12. The two contacts 15, 16 co-operating with pins 10, 11 are connected together and the heater connected to a control device 31 comprising an adjustable thermostatic switch 20 and its heater 21, and a neon lamp 23 and main switch 19. In a modification, two control devices are used, whereby each winding 2, 3, can be separately energized. In this case, each contact 15, 16 has a separate lead to its respective control device, and the common contact 14 co-operating with pin 9 has two leads, one to each control device, which are connected in parallel.
