Abstract
276,184. Schworetzky, G. Oct. 18, 1926. Hand-irons.-The body of an electric iron consists of a resistance carried on one face of a sheet of insulating material and enclosed between two enamelled plates of metal welded together at the edges, giving a light construction and consequent quick heating. The sheet h, Fig. 11 of insulating material is formed with projections a on its edge over which the resistance wire b is wound as shown. The plates p, p<1> of enamelled metal are dished, one fitting into the other as shown in Fig. 9, enclosing the resistance element. The upper plate p<1> is furnished with a web to which the handle is secured by a screw r, Fig. 3. The handle comprises a spring support f with projections f<11> engaging in the ends of the wooden or like portion i, Fig. 2. The support f is so shaped that when the screw r is screwed home the arms of the support bear on the body of the iron and grip the portion i tightly. A switch plug carries pins fitting into sockets carried by the plate p' and is held in place by a projection f<111> on the support f entering a hole in the body of the plug. The portion i is extended as shown to protect the plug and the portion of flex attached thereto.
