Abstract
609,492. Machinery guards. BROWN, W. J. Oct. 5, 1945, No. 25975. [Class 80 (iv)] A guard for rolling or like machines having at least two superposed cooperating rollers, comprises a curved plate 4 extending round the front face of the upper roller 1 so that the lower edge of the plate lies immediately in front of the position at which the material is fed between the rollers, thus preventing an operatives hand being drawn in with the material. As applied to a three-roller machine, the top of the plate 4 is pivoted on a rod 6, which is supported at each end on an arm 8 which is itself pivotally mounted on a block 9 adjustably carried on two end standards. When the rollers are wide, extra pairs of arms 8 give added support. At the lower edge of the guard a series of small rollers 10 assist in positioning it with respect to the roller 1, and a second series of rollers 11 bear against the upper surface of the material being rolled. A second guard may be arranged at the back of the roller 1, and the rod 6 may be carried directly by the end standards.
