Abstract

1,180,952. Rolling. SCHWERMASCHINENBAU ERNST THALMANN VEB. 16 Nov., 1967, No. 52251/67. Heading B3M. A roll stand includes work rolls 1 which are offset from the plane of backing rolls 5, are frictionally driven by the backing rolls, and are laterally supported by intermediate rolls 2, support rolls 3, and rollers 4. Each set of rolls 1-3 is carried at each end by an arm 14 while the corresponding roller 4 is carried in an arm 15 which is pivoted to the arm 14 about the bushing 20 of support roll 3. Spring loaded wedges 24 urge the rolls 3 to the left, and pistons 27 urge the rollers 4 into contact with the rolls 3. Jacks 28 and 26 urge the ends of the arms 14 and 15 apart, and supporting links 11 are pivotally engaged at 34 with the arms 15. The angle α, Fig. 1, between the centre lines of rolls 1-3 and 3 and 4 is adjustable by means of rollers 18, Fig. 3, of different sizes which are located between the arms 15 and fixed stops.
