Abstract
637,943. Angular bending. COMMERCIAL STRUCTURES, Ltd., and CHAMBERLAIN, A. G. April 26, 1948, No. 11383. [Class 83 (iv)] A bar or like bending-machine wherein the bar 17 is bent around a central die 12 by a roller 14 mounted on a radial arm 13 pivoted at the centre of the die, has a back-stop 16 pivoted upon a fixed part of the machine and provided with an aperture 162 to receive the bar 17 which is prevented from moving through the stop by means of the increasing pressure exerted by the stop against the bar at the edges of the aperture as the stop tends to rotate about its pivot. A base 10 having lugs 101, 102, 103 for attachment to a bench is provided with a post 11 to carry the die 12. The radial arm 13 carrying the roller 14, which is adjustable by means of a screw, is disposed between the die 12 and base 10 and is pivoted on the post 11. A sleeve 141 cupped to the form of the bar 17 is interposed between the roller 14 and the latter. As the bar is being formed around the die 12, creep between it and the die is prevented partly by friction along the surface of the die and partly by the pressure exerted at the edges of the aperture 162 in the back-stop 16. The backstop is pivoted on a peg 15 on the die 12 and attached to the latter by a screw 18 to permit the two members to be inverted as a single unit on the post 11 in order to facilitate reflex bending.
