Abstract

1,163,407. Angular bending. C. & J. HAMPTON Ltd. 1 Jan., 1968 [11 Feb., 1967], No. 6634/67. Heading B3E. A pipe-bending machine comprises an arm 6 pivoted about the centre of curvature 4 of a fixed former 5 and carrying a roller 23 which engages a length of pipe 11 through the medium of a guide 26. The roller mounting 15 consists of a locating member 14 connected to a rollercarrying slider 20 by a screw 17. Sets of holes 12 allow variation of the height of the mounting in the arm to accommodate the use of different formers and fine adjustment of the height of the roller relative to the locating member, e.g. to accommodate different qualities of pipe to be bent, is achieved by rotation of the screw 17 by means of a knurled enlargement 18. A scale 24 on the enlargement 18 enables the screw to be rotated a predetermined amount with reference to a mark 16a on the locating member. The height of the roller should be such that the roller does not contact the guide 26 until it has been angularly displaced from the vertical. If many similar pipes are to be bent the height may be determined by means of a setting piece 25 secured to the guide 26 which after adjustment of the roller height is slid towards an invertible pipe-locating block 10 so that the setting piece is clear of the roller when bending begins.
