Abstract
847,823. Straightening. UNGERER, F. Jan. 1, 1957 [Jan. 13, 1956], No. 93/57. Class 83 (4). A machine for straightening sheet-metal comprises sheet - engaging straightening - rollers backed by further rolls which extend, either individually or in staggered overlapping relationship, the whole width of a sheet, and which are each mounted for adjustable setting towards the straightening rollers. Straightening rolls 3, Figs. 2, 3, are backed by bearing rollers 4, 41, 411, journalled in arms 7, 71, rollers 6, 61, 6<SP>11</SP>, journalled in arms 9, 9<SP>1</SP>, and rollers 5, 51, 5<SP>11</SP>, journalled in arms 8, 8<SP>1</SP>, the latter rollers overlapping in staggered relationship the rollers 4, 41, 411 and 6, 61, 6<SP>11</SP>. In a modification, Figs. 4, 5, straightening-rollers 20 are backed by thin bearing-rollers 10, extending the length of the rollers 20, in turn backed by rolls 13 journalled in arms 14, rolls 12 bearing laterally against the end bearing-rollers 10. In another modification, Figs. 6, 8, straightening-rollers 15 are backed by long flexible rolls 23 in turn backed by rollers 16, 17, 22 supported along their length by axially-spaced adjustable bearings 26 mounted on arms 19. The rolls 23 may be omitted. The upper straightening-rollers of the machine may be backed as in one embodiment and the lower rolls as in another.
