Abstract

A sheet levelling machine differs from conventional ones by having the facility to provide a greater gap between the bottom work-roll (22f) and its succeeding top work-roll (24g), than between the bottom roll and its preceeding top work-roll (24e). Complete straightening can be accomplished often in a single pass, and the roll configuration can be optimised for metals of different ductilities. The process can avoid the need for hot rolling with the attendant problems of delamination. The process is economical in the use of energy and reduces wear on the rolls. A working machine is complete with work-roll carriers, back up rolls and loading jacks.
