[Class 83 (iv)] A thick work piece a is reduced to thin metalband or sheet by eccentric pilgering rolls or oscillated eccentric segments c, d, in a carriage h, moved in the direction x during the reducing stroke and back in the direction y during the idle stroke when the work piece is pushed one step farther between the segments in the direction z. The oscillation of the segment without slip may be obtained by toothed segments attached to the shaft e, adjacent the working segment, and rolling along fixed racks during the movement of the carriage. In a modification, the segments may be replaced by eccentric surfaces or a pair of continuously rotated rolls, Fig. 3. U.S.A. Specifications 1,810,886 and Re-issue 18329 are referred to.
