Abstract

950,059. Angular bending; corrugating. COOKSON SHEET METAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd, May 26, 1960 [June 2, 1959], No. 18842/59. Headings B3E and B3P. A method of forming a rib in sheet metal includes the steps of bending the sheet into a valley section along the line or region of the rib to be formed and passing the sheet between a pair of shaping rolls to form the rib. Metal sheet 10 is pulled through a gap 8 in a shaping block of steel or hard wood to be formed thereby into valley section. Shaped resiliently mounted rolls 16, 18 then form a central rib 28 and the sheet then passes beneath tapered blocks which bend the two walls 12 of the valley section back into a single plane, Fig. 4c. Another pair of rolls 42 then shape the edges of the sheet at 50, Fig. 4d, and a further pair of rolls 54 complete the formation of side ribs 52 and form swages 66 in the sheet. In a modification, Fig. 5, the sheet is bent into valley section by co-operation of the rolls 16, 18 with side guides 70. In another modification, Fig. 6, forming rolls 16, 18 co-operate with guides 76, 78.
