Abstract

779,539. Rolling. BIRDSBORO STEEL FOUNDRY & MACHINE CO. Oct. 26, 1955 [Jan. 5, 1955], No. 30664/55. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXX] A roller table for a rolling mill has a diagonally disposed guide 23 which deflects the work as it leaves a roll stand 20 and deflects it into line with the next succeeding roll stand 25. The rolls 26 of the table are reversibly driven from a shaft 27 and the first rolls are of sufficient width to overlap both roll passes and are gradually reduced in length to follow the line of the diagonal guide 23. The leading end of the work is deflected along the guide 23 by a fixed deflector plate 38 and when the trailing end has left the roll stand 20 the guide 23 is moved across the table about a pivot 47 by means of a motordriven crank 52 to bring the work into line with the next stand 25. The roller table is then reversed to feed the work into the stand 25. An adjustable deflector plate 43 sets the work at the correct angle for entrance into a bar turner device 46 preceding the roll stand.
