Abstract

608,787. Vehicle wheels. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Feb. 13, 1946, No. 4501. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1944. [Class 144 (i)] A built-up metal wheel comprises forged spokes 12 of girder-section, the inner and outer ends being provided with flanges 20, 22 respectively which are assembled in abutment and welded &c. together to form the hub and rim of the wheel. As shown, the outer ends of the spokes are covered by a metal band 36 on which are mounted a fixed tyre-retaining flange 40, and a detachable flange 42 secured by a split-ring 44. Reinforcing-rings 46 may be secured, by bolts 47, at the edges of the rim. The spokes may be provided with lightening- holes 24 having flanged edges 26. The rotors 51 of a disc-brake, preferably of the kind described in Specification 579,172, are shown secured to the wheel by means of driving- keys 50.
