Abstract

630,320. Vehicle wheels. REEVES, T. R. Nov. 7, 1946, No. 33108. [Class 144 (i)] A detachable wheel comprises a pair of separable discs formed with tyre-retaining flanges, each disc having a hub-portion adapted for driving-engagement with a (permanent) hubsleeve; or, one or both discs secured to, or engaging, a third disc member which is so adapted, and one of the discs having a coned centre for engagement by a coned retaining-nut. Fig. 1 shows one form of wheel comprising dished discs 18, 19 detachably connected by bolts 22, the flanged centres 24, 25 of the discs adapted to engage flats 15 on the hub-sleeve 11. The wheel is secured by a central nut 13 engaging the coned flange 27 of a ring 26 riveted to the disc 18. The inner disc is apertured to engage driving-pins 29 projecting from the hub-flange 17. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the inner disc 19 is formed with an integral brake-drum 46, an unflanged centre co-operating with the flats 15 on the hub-sleeve 11, and shaped to engage a coned seat 47 on the hub-flange. The outer disc has an integral coned flange 50 to take the securing- nut 13 and is engaged by driving-pins 52 on the hub-sleeve 11. Fig. 5 shows a further modification in which the wheel-discs 18, 19 are mounted directly over the brake-drum 42 which is stepped for a driving-seat on a flange 40 of the hub 11.
