Attaching to permanent hubs; disc wheels; spring wheels.-Detachable wheels are secured directly to the brake-drum without overhang. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the wheel hub c has coned edges clamped between an off-set flange on the brake-drum a and a detachable flange ring g. The hub c may be formed in sheet or cast metal. Fig. 8 shows a modification in which the wheel consists of a single disc 17 flanged to form the hub. In modifications, the wheel comprises two discs which may be formed integrally with a hub such as that shown in Fig. 8. Interengaging driving-lugs &c. may be formed on any of the abutting surfaces of the wheel hub, brake-drum, or the clamping-flange. The disc portion of the detachable wheel may be formed of wood, compressed cork, rubber, or rubber-coated fabrics. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the modification shown in Fig. 26 (Cancelled), in which a plain disc wheel 27 is detachably bolted to a vertical flange 28 formed on, or secured to, the brakedrum a. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
