Abstract

608,741. Centrifugal pumps. PIERCY, W. N. W., and ADAMS-HYDRAULICS, Ltd. May'9, 1946, No. 14092. [Class 110 (i)] In a sewage pump a perforated or slotted plate 8, lying in a plane at right angles to the axis of the impeller 3, is provided, between the impeller and the outlet, one or more cutting blades 9 being associated with the outlet side of the impeller vanes and so disposed that on rotation of the impeller 3 these blades 9 rotate in a plane immediately adjacent to that of the plate 8 whereby a cutting action occurs between the blades 9 and the slots or perforations. The edges of the slots in the plate 8 may be fitted with removable cutter blades and a series of small expeller blades 16 may be provided on the upper surface of the impeller hub to prevent solids from gaining access to the pump stuffing- box 6.
