568,456. Centrifugal pumps. HIRSCH (FILTERIT), Ltd., and LUNKEN, H. E. Oct. 8, 1943, No. 16545. [Class 110 (i)] A centrifugal pump having one or more impellers 20 on a shaft 3 has an inlet port 6 and a delivery port 7 positioned between the hub 27 and the tips of the blades 26, and arcuate grooves 9, 21, are provided in the casing walls near the blade tips so that the pump is not damaged should the delivery be shut off and the impeller kept running. The pump body 1 is constructed so that it can be bolted to a stand or truck and the covers are detachably connected to the body to facilitate easy dismantling for inspection purposes without disturbing the alignment of the motor and the impeller shaft. The vanes are thicker in the centre of a crosssection, than at the edges. Drain cocks 34 are fitted to the pumping chambers. For a twoimpeller pump, the impellers are arranged outside the inlet and outlet chambers.
