979,432. Centrifugal pumps. L. BOLKOW, [trading as BOLKOW-ENTWICKLUNGEN KOMM. GES.]. March 23, 1961 [March 23, 1960], No. 10694/61. Heading F1C. In a centrifugal pump including a rotary impeller 1 and a diffuser, the impeller is provided with curved blades 4 which taper in thickness towards the periphery of the impeller and extend in close proximinity thereto. The outer ends of the blades are dimensioned so that the total discharge area of the impeller is smaller than the inlet area of the diffuser. The blade ends 4a are tapered towards the rotor outlet to reduce pumping losses caused by the partial admission of the pumped medium at the impeller outlet. To ensure that the gap flow rotates at the full peripheral speed of the rotor, radial incisions 7 are provided on the blades. The rotor may be double sided. Specification 979,431 is referred to.
