Abstract

1486237 Centrifugal pumps LANDUSTRIE SNEEK MASCHINENFABRIK ELEKTROTECHNIEK BV 7 Nov 1974 [19 Nov 1973 (2) 48113/ 74 Heading F1C A centrifugal pump for pumping liquid containing solids has a suction inlet 9 across which extends a bar 11 which co-operates with the upstream edges of impeller vanes 7 to provide a shearing action for breaking up the solids, the bar 11 having a downstream cutting surface which may be chamfered on either side of the rotational axis in opposite directions, Fig. 3, and a planar upstream surface for causing turbulent flow through the inlet 9. A flange 14 supports bar 11 and is deformable so that the axial spacing between the bar and the upstream edges of the blades may be varied. The wall 3 surrounding inlet 9 may have radial grooves which channel away solids deposited on walls 3 in order to prevent pump blockage.
