Abstract

1315547 Axial-flow pumps M STAHLE 21 May 1970 [23 May 1969] 24534/70 Heading F1C In an axial-flow pump for liquid containing suspended solids, having a single-bladed screwtype impeller 31 mounted in a casing 34 provided with an inlet 34a, the blade comprises radially inner and outer edges 32b, 32a meeting at the inlet. Moreover, the radially inner edge 32b is inclined so as to deflect incoming solids towards the rotational axis. The internal surface of the casing is provided with helical rib or a helical groove 35 spiralling towards the pump outlet in the direction of rotation, to thereby deflect and solids trapped between the impeller blade and casing towards the pump outlet. The upstream side wall of the groove 35 defines a shearing edge which cooperates with the impeller blade to chop up any trapped solids. The said side wall may be coated with hard metal.
