Abstract
607,116. Boring and drilling. FUCHS, E., SCHONDORFF, E., and SMITH, C. F. Aug. 9, 1943, No. 12845. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XIX] Jigs.-Relates to means for use in treating the centre of an existing hole to facilitate the measurement of distances from said centre or the precision locating of other holes therefrom, and consists in a hemispherical button having the centre indicated on the flat base. This may be done by means of intersecting lines 2, 3, Fig. 2, and the button is located in the existing hole 5, Fig. 3, so that its hemispherical surface is in contact with the entire periphery of the hole. The centre 4 of the base will then always be on the axis of the hole. If a setting and locating microscope of the kind described in Specification 559,851, [Group XX], be mounted in the drill chuck of a drilling machine and the work be then adjusted till the centre 4 coincides with the intersection of the cross lines or other reference point in the microscope eye-piece, the axis of the hole is then coincident with the axis of the drill spindle and other holes may be located from it by means of feed displacements of the machine table. If the surface of the work surrounding the hole be rough then the hole is counterbored to permit the use of the button.
