[Class 83 (iii)] A depth-stop for drills or the like comprises an annular stop plate 7 adapted to bear upon the work when the required depth of hole is attained, the stop plate being adjustably clamped to the drill or the like by means of distance bars 3 and a vee-clamp 2 with set screw. The bars 3, which are slotted, are detachably secured to the plate 7 and the arms 4 of the clamp are detachably secured to the bars 3 by means of pins 5 ; alternatively, the ends of the arms 4 may be flanged to engage the side faces of the bars 3 or the latter may engage with channels formed in the ends of the arms 4. The bars 3 may be graduated and calibrated. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the arms of the clamp are permanently secured to the distance bars which are permanently secured to the stop plate, the clamp being slidable along the drill shank for adjustment purposes. In another modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), an additional flanged stop member is rotatably secured to the stop plate through the interposition of a ball thrust bearing. In a further modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the faces of the clamp are tapered for taking drill bits with tapered shanks.
