Abstract

1368132 Gauging UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 17 July 1972 [17 Sept 1971] 43581/71 Heading B3B [Also in Division G1] A device for use with a gauge member for aligning a point on a workpiece with an axis of a tool holder comprises a shank means 5 for attaching the device to a tool holder, e.g. a boring head, means 6 for supporting a gauge member 9 having a stylus 8 movable transversely towards an axis 3 which is coincident with a tool axis in the boring head when the device is attached to it, and a stop member 10 for providing a surface 11 along which the axis 3 passes and against which the stylus 8 bears while the stylus of the gauge member 9 is set to indicate a datum position of the axis 3, the stop member being movable to a position out of contact with gauge member to enable the stylus to contact a workpiece. The device can be used relative to boring a hole in a plate wherein the device is used to position a workpiece table in datum positions from which predetermined distances in two coordinates can be measured. Also the device can be used in a lathe tailstock to set a tool or in a scribing block for subsequently marking out a workpiece.
