606,813. Stuffing-box substitutes. KENNEDY, J. E. Oct. 4, 1945, No. 25871. Convention date, June 20. [Class 122 (v)] [Also in Groups II, XXX and XXXIV] In a grinding-mill, the trunnion bearing is sealed against dust by an annular plate 66 which is bolted to the casing 18 and carries a packing at its inner edge to engage the trunnion 38. Dust is excluded at the other end of the gear casing by a packing-ring 72 between the rotary and stationary sleeves 68, 70, and by an annular plate 74 which is bolted to the helically-flighted lining 58 of the trunnion 38, and is arranged with its outer edge in the grease-filled sealing space 80 between spaced annular stationary plates bolted to the sleeve 70. A packing 90 is arranged between the cylindrical part of a discharge conduit 84 and a ring 86 which is pressed by springs 94 towards the inner part of the plate 74. A rub plate 76 on the plate 74 contacts with a rub plate 88 on the ring 86. A flange 82 on the plate 74 deflects from the laminated seal any dust which passes the rub plate 76. The trunnion 102, at the other end of the mill, is sealed against dust by an annular plate 110, the inner edge of which is formed as a hooked flange serrated seal and carries a felt seal-ring 121 held in place by a plate. The charging- shoot 120 is sealed by a rib-plate assembly similar to the assembly 76, 86.
