Abstract

606,563. Driving auxiliary parts. WILLY'SOVERLAND MOTORS, Inc. June 15, 1945, No. 15306. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1944. [Class 79 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] A power take-off device for a vehicle comprises a winch connected through reduction gearing to a clutch positioned substantially in the plane of the forward end of the crankshaft and engageable with a member, e.g. the fan pulley, rotatable therewith. Figs. 3 and 4 show a winch 62 keyed to a shaft 60 rotatable in a housing 55 said housing forming part of a plate 52 which is attached to a base-plate 44 secured to the chassis of the vehicle forward of the radiator. A hub 71 is secured to the lower end of the shaft 60 shaped as shown in Fig. 5, the recesses of which house spring-loaded rollers 80 which provide a one-way clutch between the hub 71 and the hub 74 of a worm wheel 76. Rotation of the wheel 76 in a clockwise direction causes the rollers to jam between the faces 84 and 85 which causes the winch to rotate. Slackness in the cable however, may be taken up by rotating the winch by hand. The worm-wheel 76 is driven by a worm 95 secured to a shaft 93 which is journalled in bosses 89 and 90 depending from the plate 52. The rear end of the shaft 93 is connected to another shaft 100 by a universal joint 98, the shaft 100 in turn being connected to a shaft 103 in alignment with the engine crankshaft. The shaft 103 is journalled in a block 128 which is fixed to the engine by spacers 125. A dog clutch element 130, provided with pins 133 is splined to the shaft 103 and is engageable with holes 132 in the crankshaft pulley 114. The member 130 is slidable by means of a yoke 140, control rods 137 and 145, and knob 148.
