Abstract

606,562. Cementitious pipes with joints. LOCK JOINT PIPE CO. June 12, 1945, No. 14838. Convention date, June 29, 1944. [Classes 99 (i) and 99 (ii)] A prestressed reinforced pipe has a compressed wall of originally plastic and subsequently hardened material such as cementitious material, a tubular metallic sleeve within said wall, and a tensioned metallic band encircling the wall and disposed near the external surface of the pipe. Fig. 1 shows a pipe made up of a tubular concrete layer 17, a compressed metal sleeve 10, a further layer 16 of concrete, a helically wound tensioned metal band 18, and a covering 20 of concrete. Metal end parts 11, 12 may be fitted to the sleeve 10 and the concrete layers continued as shown to form socket and spigot ends to the pipe. The part 12 has a projection 14 which is a sliding fit with the part 11 of another pipe when making a joint, Fig. 4. A gasket 22 and filling material 23 are used, both being held in tight engagement with the pipes by a wire mesh 24 partially embedded in one pipe.
