969,956. Flexible hoses; pipe joints. OIL FEED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept. 27, 1961 [Sept. 27, 1960], No. 33216/60. Headings F2G and F2P. In a method of assembling a hose end fitting to a flexible hose a hose end fitting element is attached to a length of flexible metal tube which is then built into the flexible hose. As shown, the two parts a, b of the end fitting component are formed with buttress-shaped projections which hold the braided metal tube c therebetween. A coupling flange ring m is held on the part a by a spring coil x trapped in a groove m, and allows the end fitting to be secured by bolts to a complementary end fitting F. The hose is built up of a lining g of rubber, of plies f 4 , f 5 , f 6 of reinforcing fabric material, plies e 1 , e 2 , e 3 of rubber having embedded therein a coiled reinforcement wire d and further plies f 1 , f 2 , f 3 of fabric material with a covering h of rubber and is cured after it has been assembled to the end fitting. The lining g is extended and formed with an enlargement k which functions as an 0-ring in grooves formed in the end surfaces of the two coupled end fittings and the covering h is arranged in a circumferential groove in the end fitting.
