Abstract

Extruded products such as filaments, threads, artificial horse-hairs, straws and the like having a basis of cellulose derivatives are dry-spun in a closed circuit, part of which is heated and part cooled to condense the solvent, the evaporative medium travelling in the same direction and at the same speed as the extruded products. Suitable apparatus is described in Specification 605,612. In a typical example a 28 per cent solution of cellulose acetate in a mixture of 80 parts by volume of acetone and 20 parts by volume of ethyl alcohol is heated to 70 DEG C. and extruded through a spinneret of 260 orifices into the spinning chamber, the heating jacket of which is heated by steam at 130 DEG C., the cooling chamber is at 0 DEG C., and the re-heating chamber is at 90 DEG C.
