Abstract

A dry-spinning process for the production of viscose silk characterized in that the viscose is extruded into a gaseous atmosphere heated to a temperature above about 120 DEG C., and thereafter converted into cellulose and subjected to after treatment in known manner. It is preferred to use a viscose having a low content of NaOH and a high viscosity, obtained for example, by increasing the cellulose content to 7 per cent or above, or by shortening the ripening process. In examples: (1) viscose is spun with a ripeness of 4 DEG Hottenroth from a spinarette surrounded by a cooling ring into an atmosphere the temperature of the first 100 cms. of which is 250 DEG C., and the following 150 cms., 95 DEG C.; (2) viscose containing 15 per cent of cellulose and 7,5 per cent of NaOH is spun into the apparatus described below, using a drawing speed of 150 metres per minute. The apparatus comprises a cooled spinarette opening into the top of the inner of two concentric pipes separated by insulating substance. The inner pipe is heated electrically in three zones each of one metre in length so that the temperatures in the zones are 400-450 DEG , 250 DEG , and 150 DEG C. respectively. Specification 344,474 is referred to.
