Abstract
An organic derivative of cellulose, hydrogen peroxide, and a suitable solvent are mixed to form a spinning solution which is extruded into a setting medium in the usual manner. The cellulose derivative may be a cellulose ester or ether, and the setting medium an evaporative atmosphere as in dry-spinning, or a coagulating bath as in wet-spinning. The filaments, yarns, ribbons, bristles or the like produced are substantially free from colour. The quantity of hydrogen peroxide used may be from 0,05 to 1,0 per cent of the weight of the cellulose derivative present. An example is given in which cellulose acetate dissolved in aqueous acetone containing 0,1 per cent of hydrogen peroxide is spun according to known methods.
