Abstract

605,571. Grinding-machines. BUCATTI, E. July 20, 1945, No. 18668. Convention date, Jan. 14, 1944. [Class 60] The tailstock of a -grinding - machine has a flat face on the grinding-wheel side and a recess, at right angles to the face, in which a diamond holder is adjustable, the tailstock centre being set in the tailstock with its axis in close proximity to the recess accommodating the dressing tool, and to the flat face. As shown, the tailstock comprises a slide 3 adapted to be clamped in a member 4 which is itself slidable on the bed 6 to which it is clamped by bolts 10. The centre 2 is cut away to clear the grinding-wheel 1 to enable small diameters to be ground, and the tailstock is generally constructed to avoid fouling the grinding-wheel. The slide 3 is operated by a hand wheel 35 and screw 30, resilient means being interposed between the nut 31 and the slide to avoid shock. The exposed part of the slide 3 is covered by a metal sheet 40 secured to the member 4, and entry of water and dust to the lower slideway of the slide 3 is prevented by a strip 13. The dressing-diamond 15 is set in a holder 16 carried in a socket 17 in a member 21 which has a non-circular section to slide in a similarly shaped bore in an extension 20 of the slide 3. The member 21 is clamped after adjustment by the screw 22. A number of dressing-tools may be mounted in the tailstock to dress a corresponding number of grinding-wheels, each tool being set to grind a particular wheel. The wheels may be of different diameters to grind work of complex form.
