366,467. Centreless grinding. CHURCHILL MACHINE TOOL CO., Ltd., Broadheath, near Manchester, and ASBRIDGE, H. H., Claremont, Washway Road, Ashton-on-Mersey. Oct. 2, 1930, No. 29481. [Class 60.] Guides and rests ; gauges.-A centreless grinding-machine for grinding the outer surface of a hollow cylindrical article concentric with its bore, or for grinding a cylindrical portion on an article concentric with a portion of different diameter, consists of a bed b carrying a grinding-wheel a and a regulating-wheel c arranged and operated as described in Specification 366,466. Upon the regulating-wheel slide e is mounted a slide f in which is secured a hollow arbor s in which the machined portion u<1> of a work-piece is a working fit, the part u of the work-piece being rotated by the regulating-wheel and ground by the grinding-wheel. The slide f is urged towards the regulating- wheel by a spring j, or a weight, to an extent limited by a stop formed by a stud i ; the movement of the slide towards the grinding- wheel, to control the size of the work, is limited by a stop h. The slide f also carries a stud 10, which is adjusted to contact with a part 13 of the regulating-wheel head when the stop h comes into operation in order to avoid twisting strain on the work. In order to grind hollow bushes, a plug type arbor is mounted on the slide, and a movable support for the outer end of the arbor may be provided. In a modification, the regulating-wheel rotates on a fixed axis, and the grinding-wheel is moved to and from the work. In a further modification, the slide e may be independent of the regulating- wheel head, and may be in the form of an attachment. Specification 360,964 is referred to.
