[Class 60.] Bevelling ; gauges rests.-A centreless grinding machine for grinding the bevelled seating of a poppet valve concentric with the previously ground stem and at the correct angle, consists of a bed s carrying a grinding wheel a, and upon slides e, a a regulating wheel b, the wheels running upon parallel axes but being displaced axially so that the regulating wheel operates on the valve head n with its flat face, and the grinding wheel operates with its periphery. Pivoted to the slide e about an axis parallel to that of the grinding wheel is a bracket d in which is mounted an arbor c adapted to receive the stem f of the valve, which is a working fit in the arbor, the axis of the arbor making an angle of 45‹ to the axis of the grinding wheel; pivotal movement of the bracket d towards the grinding wheel is limited by a stop p, and towards the regulating wheel by a stop q, a spring o urging the bracket towards the regulating wheel. The valve stem is pressed towards a stop g by an adjustable pusher k carried by a sleeve h supported by parallel links i and movable by a handle j. The arbor c may be carried by a slide instead of by the bracket d. According to the Provisional Specification, the arbor is mounted on a bracket carried by a frame secured on the machine bed, and in cases where the valve stem is enlarged at the end opposite the head, it is dropped into a cradle-like support.
