Centreless grinding ; guides and rests.-A machine for the centreless grinding of a workpiece having portions 14, 15 of different diameters is provided with a spring-controlled pressure-roller 2 mounted on the head 5 of the grinding-wheel 12 and adapted, when the grinding-head is moved towards the work, to hold the larger diameter of the work against the controlling wheel 11 so as to rotate the work while permitting further advance of the grinding-wheel into contact with the smaller diameter 15. The pressure roller is mounted on a bracket 1 adjustable in a guide plate 3 carried by an arm 4 which is slidable against a spring 7 in the grinding head. The sliding movement is controlled by a stop comprising a screw 8 sliding in the head and engaging a tapped hole 10 in the arm 4. The larger diameter is first ground in the ordinary way by feeding the work between the grinding and regulating wheels while for grinding the smaller diameter the work is located against a stop 13.
